LEDs certainly are everywhere; wherever you look around you, you find LED in one form or another - working in your home, working on your calculator, in your digital watches, in your garden, in your TV screen, in your laptop, in your cars - just everywhere. Earlier on, it was used to indicate, not to eliminate. But now the purpose of usage has been changed. With the advancement of technology, LED has covered almost all the different residential applications of light in our life.
Red light was perhaps the first LED light that we saw somewhere in 1962. It is then followed by yellow and green light. In this way, the whole traffic signal light came into existence. Much later, in early 90s, the broad spectrum of LED blue lights was developed. It was the beginning of the huge advancement in the field of LED. Since then, it is becoming more and more popular because of its number of advantages. In 1993, a company named Nichia combined this blue light with red and green light to make white light. It was the revolution in the field of LED technology. This first white LED light (blue LED with sulfur coating) provided enough material to create white colored light but it was very expansive at that time.
In recent days, researchers are doing research for the coming revolution of solid-state lighting. They say that they are working on different projects to control different aspects of lighting for a room. They are trying to create many wavelengths in a room and to blend them to produce special effects like the exact representation of sunlight or moonlight in the room. They are doing these efforts to provide us more comfortable and pleasant atmosphere.
LED lights hold many advantages when compare to the traditional lighting. The most important and well-considered advantage is its low power consumption. Reports said that the use of LED () saves one-third of the energy. It shows that if we use one LED light, it will help us in 10% reduction in electricity consumption along with the reduction of carbon emission. This helps in making our environment clean and safe to live in. LEDs also reduce the sulfur and nuclear elements from the atmosphere to keep us healthy. These lights are without mercury so they are easy to recycle. They are long life and durable. They are cost effective too. They are found in many shapes, colors and styles. They are manufactured for different purposes. They are easily available.
