Android Apps And Their Integration With An ERP Solution

ByAndrew V Mark
Mobile field personnel are always at wit's end when they are out in the field for their regular rounds. It is very difficult for them to first note down sales orders manually and then again update the information once they are back in their office. They have to manually enter the data again to the company ERP database. This is wastage of resource time since there is a definite time lag in the sales order update. Chances are that once the sales order is made, the personnel might realize that they are short on inventory once they are back. Additionally, sales personnel might find it hard to plan their rounds out since they are not sure of the customer's location and might end up wasting their time for every visit.
Mobile field service applications in the form of Android apps are the latest utility applications that have stormed the market. These apps can be integrated with any ERP solution so that there is a fantastic synchronization of information between the sales personnel and the company ERP database on a real-time basis.
This integration between the ERP and Android apps is aimed for simplification of operations in organizations that attach huge importance to its after-sales service for existing as well as new customers. Services constitute the pivotal indicator of success industry. Without a real-time connection to back-end business applications, field personnel are forced to use paper forms to gather information for a wide variety of transactions - and then manually enter the information into their company database, once they return back to their stationary desks. As a result, there is a definite time lag in the business processes and overall operations - delays that affect service levels, employee productivity, cash flow and overall profitability. The basic requirement of such organizations which are unable to meet customer service satisfaction levels is to facilitate quick service to its customers and maximize efficiency in the proceedings.
There are complete field service applications available for Android-enabled devices that can be easily installed, portable enough and provide a fantastic solution for reducing the lag in service for enhanced productivity. This is how the applications work. An executive logs into the mobile application and look into the service tasks/activities assigned to him. He can sort them out status-wise and priority-wise. The personnel can then plan the route for their activities through the Optimum Routing Feature and the Google Maps functionality which is integrated within the applications. The Android apps shows the real-time inventory status using different search parameters which allows the executive to update information like Activity Status too.

App Maker Marketing Tip: Using Mobile Application to Boost SEO Visibility and Ranking

Does your business have an iPhone app or any other mobile application? If so, then you should use it as a leverage to improve your SEO efforts. There are many ways an app can help with your online presence and overall success. Find below some of these strategies:
Mobile app review sites -One of the easiest and most effective ways to leverage your application for SEO is to submit it to many different app review sites. Tech buffs, including ardent app users frequent these sites to either find new and exciting mobile apps or check feedback on a specific app before downloading it. Try to submit it to at least twenty review sites to obtain twenty new links!
Press releases -Press release submission is another great SEO technique to get more links. You can craft a press release and submit it on various PR sites for every news-worthy event about your app, such as launch, bug updates/fixes, promos, etc. Also, mobile-related news is all the rage these days. Thus, it usually gets better reception versus conventional company news and or product launches.
Article directories- To get more links, write articles related to mobile apps and have them published on countless article directories. Just make sure these are useful to readers and not just some shameless plugging about your app. Otherwise, they would just be rejected and your efforts would be futile. You may use keywords but don't overdo it, as it would sound spammy and would, again, be rejected. To get fast approval, be sure to follow the article directories' editorial guidelines.
Forum posts -Contributing in forums relevant to mobile app development is also another effective way to improve your SEO pursuits. Try answering questions from members to showcase your expertise. Forums usually allow you to put your website link as part of your signature. Like in article directory submission, you should also follow forum posting rules to not get into trouble or get banned by moderators.
Social media networks -While social networking is no doubt time-consuming, it is very useful in boosting SEO efforts. Make a Facebook page and create a social media presence for your app. Include your website links and keywords whenever possible--status updates, photo/video descriptions, etc. Like the above techniques, moderation is key.

Will Mobile Education Replace The Classroom?

BySam Stephan
Android is not a substitute for school, yet. It is unfortunate that digital technology is incorporated least in the area it is needed most: education. However, no one had foreseen the computer would replace conventional form of learning either.
Considered more a luxurious distraction, parents raise concern about their little toddlers going to school holding a Smartphone. Alternatively, a survey revealed that a quarter of the parents plan to gift their own devices to their children, and installing educational apps into them. The medium of instruction should not be the cause to restrict learning, but rather encourage it, and android smartphones are doing exactly that. Those who let their children experiment would not deny the increased interest in learning, for instance, through a math game or a social studies quiz on the mobile OS that enhance skill and memory.
Teachers, like parents, find the open based application a challenge. Referring to the Android tablet Kindle Fire, one reviewer aptly put it this way: "Although I'm hesitant to predict that the Kindle Fire will radically change education, I do think that the popularity of this device will lead to more development of educational Android apps that are optimized for tablets."
The Android has invaded the education arena in the smartest possible way, with Android television introduced in hospitals for providing entertainment as well as education to patient. Within a span of four years, Android educational apps, either free or paid, have managed to cover a broad range of subjects from the elementary level to adult education, as well as for professional skills improvement.
Amazon Appstore and Android Market app is developed exclusively for the android platform by Google has over 400,000 active apps and more than half are free. Shapes Five Pumpkins app are flashcards designed for infants, with the option to customize it with one's own voice. Tracing ABC is a free app that teaches toddlers to write by tracing alphabets or numbers using the cursor. iStoryBooks are interactive books that can either be read aloud or heard. Besides this, there are foreign language dictionaries for the older lot, art and craft activities such as Doodledroid, educational games and quizzes, skill based tutorials such as Photoshop, science research through arXiv mobile, Google Sky Map, the ASL sign language for the hearing impaired, to name a few. Encouraging teenagers to read the newspaper is no longer a challenge. Installing the Pulse news app saves stories for reading later offline or sharing it with others. The Fortune magazine has called as "the king of apps."
A director of information technology expressed that the teaching staff need to be trained in order to keep up with technology trends and to optimize their use and thereby prevent the overuse and harmful effects such 'openness' can cause to the education system. He suggested that the staff should hold more restrictions for the younger students and for the teachers to look toward finding administrative support and collaborate with parents to properly utilize and handle access via information technology.
The apps continue to reap from the harvest. In a matter of time, classes will become condensed apps. For now, faith exists in the physical presence of teachers.

Wireless Technology

It may sound Neanderthal, (and I am hesitant to admit it), but the first time I touched or had anything to do with computers and such technology was when I was twenty-three years old. I was sweaty-palmed, breathing shallowly; heart pounding and my anxiety levels were in the red. My, then, boss was taking on the megalith task of teaching me how to use a computer! At the end of my first lesson I knew what the C Drive was. I was elated. Emancipated! And it was then that a parallel technological universe opened itself up to me and swallowed me whole. Technology made itself manifest in my life. I mean, I suddenly had 'skills'.
Susan is a twenty nine-year old mother of two. She and her spouse manage a successful nucleus business with offices which they administer from home. She is up at 5am every morning, pops off to the gym, and makes sure she is back in time to wake up the kids and get them ready for the day that lies ahead. John, her husband, is tasked with getting the kids to their day-care while Susan quickly showers and gets busy with the first order of their business day. By the time John gets back business is in full swing. Susan has already sent out her first batch of e-mails, confirmed both of her meetings for the day, forwarded that ever-so-important proposal for the 'big-wigs' and is in the middle of the conference call with the importer that could change their lives.
Upon closer inspection the office seems sparse. True it has the harmonious flow of its Feng Shui design. The designer rug and art do make that understated statement. The minimalistic retro office furniture is suited to their profile but what is strikingly missing are the large fax machines and computers, laptops even, modems and the endless array of office equipment one would expect to see to make an office an office. Susan needs to leave to get to her first meeting on time. Things have run smoothly for the day so that she will be able to do her projections and reports just as she had hoped to do. She is on track. She picks up her keys, her handbag and her state of the art mobile phone. That's it. She goes to her meeting which runs without a hitch. She makes the presentation to the client and looks forward to the positive outcome from the effort that she has put into the project.
I, on the other hand, can now 'help' myself on a PC. I am no longer intimidated into a corner by Facebook or Outlook! The difference between Susan and I is that Susan has cutting edge technology that makes her cutting edge. In the past twenty odd years since I was twenty- three, (I am not at liberty to say how many odd years), I have become reliant on technology to run and administer not only my professional life but my personal one too. Susan, and I suspect you, actually inhabit the twenty-first century. Susan and I suspect you, live at a pace and under very real pressures of performing well to be able to sustain a modicum of lifestyle for yourselves and those around you. It is not enough to tap into technology as a crutch, when the use of technology at its most effective can be a support system that is not only reliable but convenient and aesthetic to boot. How much more efficient do you get than picking up your phone encased in its Bluetooth Ultra-Thin Slide-Out Wireless Keyboard that takes your office and business to where you really need it - to where you are. How simple is that?

Latest Event: Use of Biometrics in Mobile Communication

Security applications which use the person's biological assets have been in use for quite some time now. Finger print scanners can even be seen in home cased PCs, iris scanner and other types of biometric devices have also become popular lately. But due to some reason Biometric security till date has remained aloof from mobile communication systems. The need of miniaturization is the biggest challenge that has been in front of the engineers when it comes to taking the technology to mobile devices, PDAs and other hand-held machines.
Until now the biometrics has been used to tie a device to a person so that it does not fall in the hands of scrupulous persons. It eliminates the illegal use of the devices. But the latest IST project named SECUREPHONE has taken biometrics with a whole new approach. It lets the person digitally sign audio, text and even image files as a proof of their originality and authenticity.
The biometric data is basically stored in the SIM card ad can only be accessed by a verification module which also runs on the SIM card. This ensures that the user biometric profile is completely tamper proof. Thus this is one of a kind biometric application which processes and stores the data on the SIM card.
The existing communication might be very secure but there is no way to prove the authenticity or identification of the person on the other side of the phone. As we know mobiles due to the ubiquity are seen to be the future means of monetary transactions like eCommerce, even means to sign deals and give presentation but unless there is any full proof method to prove the identity of the person, all this would be a distant dream. The securephone technology provides a way in which even the audio or the text sent through mobiles will have a legal value. The aim is to find a means of conversation that cannot be disputed afterward for example a biometrically encoded voice coding would be a clear proof of the person speaking.
The securephone project thus consists of two different modules:
• The first module is basically the biometric verification module which verifies that only the legitimate person is using the particular service. It is a type of biometric security application which confirms the identity of the user.
• The second module succeeds the first one by digitally signing the data by use of a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI).
Thus rather than relying on something you possess like a pin code that you can easily lose the biometric encryption relies on what you actually are!

PDF EBook Security Software - The Functionality You Should Look for

ByAchilles Marshall
EBook authors and publishers have for long suffered the effects of the piracy of their intellectual property; so it is about time that effective software is developed to stop or discourage pirates from sustaining this trend. Some of the functions that authors desire in PDF security software for their eBooks include the capability to share them securely, control their use, and a platform that lets them see when and the frequency with which their eBooks are viewed and printed. They also desire a PDF eBook security software suite that can stop document copying, sharing, modifying, saving, inhibit screen grabbing and print screen, stop printing to file, image printer or PDF format, and block access to documents.
Power is nothing without control, or so the wise men said, and in PDF eBook protection it is desirable to not only have the capability to stop, but to control the various functions that are relevant to documents. The right PDF security software is therefore one that lets the publisher decide if in the first place his/her document can be viewed, and if so the number of views allowed, when it can no longer be viewed (expire), and if it should be viewed only online or if offline viewing is also possible. It should also enable the document owner to decide whether his/her creative can be viewed in thin and/or virtual environments. These controls are essential for authors who make their eBooks available on subscription basis.
Nowadays, eBooks are widely used for online training courses and as such lecturers may need to make copies of such documents for use where computers are not available. In such situations the ability to just allow or stop printing is not entirely adequate as we may need to control the number of prints that can be made. The application of PDF security software featuring a watermarking capability (of which the user's and system identity information is dynamically displayed on the printouts) can serve as an effective deterrent to making unauthorized copies of the protected document.
An appropriate PDF security software suite is one that can communicate with a licensing server to confirm whether the user is licensed to access and/or use your creative. This, as part of DRM controls, means that your document is protected regardless of where it resides. Going back to the subscription issue mentioned earlier on, it is useful if the eBook PDF protection application can be integrated into your existing ecommerce system so as to facilitate safe and instant delivery of licenses to authorized users. Last but not least, the eBook protection software licensing system should not be password-based as passwords can be forgotten, revealed to unauthorized parties, or even be exposed using password-cracking tools.
